METAR & TAF Decoder: Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the METAR & TAF Decoder app ("the app") for iPhone, iPad and Android handles your information. The app is published by WiserWorks LLC ("we", "us"), New Jersey, United States.

The short version: the app has no account, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and we do not collect personal data. The airport codes you type are sent to our server only to fetch the weather report you asked for.

1. Information we collect

We do not collect, sell or share personal information, and the app contains no analytics or advertising software. In the App Store privacy details the app is declared as "Data Not Collected".

2. Weather requests

When you look up an airport, the app sends the station identifier you typed (for example LTFM) over HTTPS to a relay on aviationwiser.com. The relay asks the NOAA Aviation Weather Center for the current METAR / TAF and returns it to the app. This happens only to show you the report.

Like any web request, the request reaches our web host (Hostinger), which sees the IP address of your connection. To protect the service from overload and abuse, the relay keeps short-lived request counters per address (about two hours) and a short-lived cache of reports per station. We do not keep a per-user log, and we do not link requests to a person, an account or a device identifier.

3. Information stored only on your device

Your favourite stations, the offline copies of reports you have viewed, your language and last station, the start of your free trial and a note that Pro is unlocked are stored on your device only. They contain no payment details, are not sent to us, and are removed when you delete the app. On Android, if you have Google backup turned on, the app's small preferences file may be included in your own Google backup.

4. Purchases

The app offers a 7-day free trial, then a one-time "Pro" unlock. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your name, e-mail address or payment details. The app only asks the store on your device whether your store account owns Pro, so it can unlock it. "Restore Purchases" in the app lets you restore the unlock on a new device. Apple and Google handle purchase data under their own privacy policies:

On Android, Google's purchase system includes a Google software component in the app. Any technical information it sends to Google is handled by Google, not by us.

5. Children

The app is a reference and learning tool for pilots and aviation enthusiasts and is not directed to children. We collect no personal information from anyone, including children.

6. Educational use only

The app is for educational use only. It is not for flight planning or operational use, and it is not a substitute for an official weather briefing. The app is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by NOAA, the National Weather Service (NWS) or the FAA.

7. Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes how it handles information, we will update this page and the effective date before the change takes effect.
